FAQ
Monfumo is a tiny village located on Asolo Hills, in Veneto, Italy.
ONVIS jeans and its life stories were born there. The very first ONVIS jeans tells us about a guy called Arminio who was a worker in the 'Piumaella' mine. It was 1940 when Dario Callegari, owner of a spinning factory, employed a few dozen of workers to draw brown coal from the underground.
Arminio was one of these young workers, only 24 years old with 5 sons already. Being both strong and clever Mr. Callegari decided to promote him to the head of the 'Colpien' site, which later then had been extended to the Piumaella mine. The mine entrance was located under a creek bed, hence the risk of flooding was quite high. In fact the gallery often got filled with water but the use of pumps normally avoided any further damages.
This was until 1948 when unfortunately, at the end of January, the water suddenly broke the dikes and overflew the galleries. The site's entrance bursted and Arminio and his colleagues got blocked inside. While the water was rising and the light was fading out, the boys slowely lost any hope of surviving. However as Arminio knew those galleries perfectly, he managed to lead his mates towards the burners that opened up close to the 'Valle delle Fate' ('Fairys' Valley') and all of them escaped savely.
ONVIS takes us back to those years translating the origins of jeans into a contemporary context. ONVIS jeans are not a fashion product, but a functional, hand-crafted object. It's main features are materials of highest quality, resistance and attention to details.

GENERAL
What is ONVIS?
ONVIS is based on the idea of making a real and authentic consumer brand. Making supreme quality jeans a product for everyone. A daily companion becoming the linen cloth of people's lives. Going back to the roots of denim, re-proposing the origins of jeans in a contemporary context. ONVIS is more than a fashion brand. ONVIS is telling stories - people's real lifestories.
What are ONVIS TRUESTORIES?
ONVIS is existing thanks to lives of the wearers. We are offering raw denim jeans - BLUEVIRGINs - to a very reasonable price asking you to live them everyday by (ab)using them as much as possible. Once daily life has left it's tracies on the denim we are encouraging you to send your used pair of BLUEVIRGINs back to us to be evaluated and - if we like your proposal - to be chosen and replicated for one of our next 'TRUESTORIES' limited edition (up tp 5.000 pieces). The respective lifestoryteller will get paid a royalty of 1,00 Euro per piece on the collection's effectives sales (max. 5,000,- Euro) and will be portrayed on our website.
Why are ONVIS BLUEVIRGINs so cheap?
BLUEVIRGINs are selvage quality jeans, rigid (non-washed), like all other ONVIS models. We are selling them at such a low price simply because we want them to be affordable for everyone! We are calling ourselves denim 'passionistas' and our phylosophy is easy: to sell an authentic product of highest quality without any exaggerated fashion hype to people who live their life to the maximum.
What is SELVAGE?
In a woven fabric, "SELVAGE" is the uncut edge of the fabric coming out of the loom. As such it is 'finished' and will not fray because the weft threads double back on themselves. Selvage denim (also called 'selvedge') is a type of fabric which forms a clean natural edge that does not unravel. It is commonly presented in the unwashed or raw state. Typically you see the selvage edges along the outseam of the pants when turned up. Although selvage denim is not completely synonymous with unwashed denim, the presence of selvage normally implies that the denim used is of a supreme quality.
Are the featured stories true?
Yes, ONVIS TRUESTORIES are vintage retakes of ONVIS jeans, in limited editions, used by ordinary people of any kind. The usuries, tears and breaks are authentic traces of their lifestyles. The people featured on this website lived part of their real life stories with a pair of ONVIS jeans.
What happens if you choose my BLUEVIRGIN after I used it?
If we choose your BLUEVIRGIN after you had worn and sent it back to us we will create a limited edition of 5000 pieces with your name (or nickname) and will portray you and your story on this website. You will get paid 1,00 Euro for each single jeans sold (max 5.000,- Euro).
How long will I have to use my BLUEVIRGIN, in order to make it a possible candidate for you to create my story?
It really depends on your lifestyle. Generally at least 6 months, but usually 1-2 years of life deliver fantastic results.
Before buying a TRUESTORIES jeans, I'd like to be sure that I like the model, the fit and any other feature of the item. How can I do?
If you are uncertain, we suggest to buy a BLUEVIRGIN version first. Materials, cut and fitting are the same. In this way you can have the same jeans for a much lower price, you can evaluate the quality and decide then for a TRUESTORIES model.
Do BLUEVIRGINs really have the same quality of TRUESTORIES regarding fitting and material?
Yes, they have. Our mission is to give you the possibility to have a high quality item with an affordable price hoping that one day a new TRUSTORIES model will be born wearing your name.
I heard ONVIS jeans are limited and numbered series. Is that true?
Yes, TRUESTORIES are always limited series, generally of 5.000 pieces. You will find the serial number in the inside.
How can I obtain one of the first 10 pieces (Serial number from 1 to 10) of a peculiar model?
You will find them on offer only in the very end of a TRUESTORIES model lifecycle and only via on-line auction.
How can I be sure that the items I find on E-bay are authentic ONVIS?
We can warranty that they are authentic, as long as you buy on ebay by linking from this website sections.
TECHNICAL
How do I have to wash my jeans to spoil it?
Basically, the less you wash your jeans the better the vintage effect will be. However in order to avoid hanging around with your friends being filthy and smelly... wear it every day, turn it inside-out, use a small amount of washing powder, wash it separately at 50° celtius, stretch out when still damp, hang to dry, do not tumble dry, iron or bleach, ever!
Why does the images on ONVIS website fade and get consumed?
Let's say this is part of our brand vision and reminds to what happens to jeans in the course of their lifecycle. In addition ONVIS jeans have a lot of details and tiny little features which might not be realised immediately. If you ask yourself this question it means you are a careful observer and probably a curious person, open minded towards the little discoveries of every-day life. Thank you for being so sensitive to details and keep on searching, you will always find some nice and small new characteristic in ONVIS products!
